+This award recognizes the creative and pragmatic spirit shown by the team of architects as it redesigned the building, transforming it into a modern, light-filled workplace, conducive to creating works of architecture. With this unique project, the bisson | associés team successfully highlighted concepts that represent it and, at the same time, met its new needs and budget.
The original partitioned, characterless space was completely overhauled. The floor plan now features an open spatial flow where only the main conference room and a few offices may be closed with pivoting dividers. New views have been created, adding a feeling of depth and continuity to the entire space. A glass wall tinted with a one-way mirror effect helps enlarge the conference room while preserving its visual privacy. The combined effect of transparency and reflection revitalize the main entrance and reception area.
The former showroom now houses the primary work area and its large windows flood the space with natural light. Layered screens of varying opacities enable the designers to control the amount of light that comes in during the day. The wall colours used, primarily white, optimize the amount of light and create an elegant, modern ambience. The furnishings are also designed by bisson | associés. Through the use of simple volumes with controlled lines and select textures, a few contrasting raw elements have been preserved, recalling the recycled building’s former industrial character.
Founded in 1997, the bisson | associés architectural firm is recognized for its expertise in and contributions to a variety of projects, particularly in the fields of business, institutions and culture. The firm’s commitment can be seen in its architectural approach, which combines the human, technical and financial aspects required of any intervention on the built environment. The professionals making up the firm’s team share the conviction that the most suitable architectural response is specific to every project at a given time and place.
