Jouant sur la thématique de l’aéroport pour évoquer ces passagers arrivés en bateau, en train ou en avion au cours des 4 derniers siècles, l’exposition se répartit sur 3 salles, chacune éclairée de façon distincte par François Roupinian et son équipe de Lightemotion. « L’exposition est le résultat d’un magnifique travail de collaboration entre les divers intervenants », selon Roupinian qui se dit particulièrement heureux du Hall des cinq millions d’âmes. En effet, devant l’éclairage ramené à sa plus simple expression, « lumière noire » et ampoules DEL suspendues, le visiteur ne peut s’empêcher de ressentir la présence de ces passagers d’antan dont on pourrait croire qu’ils et elles sont toujours parmi nous.

Dans les deux autres salles de l’exposition, Roupinian n’utilise qu’un nombre restreint de dispositifs dont il joue avec retenue et subtilité, tubes fluorescents près du sol et réflecteurs halogènes à faisceau varié au plafond. L’éclairage est « en osmose avec les projections multimédias », qui retiennent l’attention des spectateurs; par ailleurs, souligne à nouveau François Roupinian, « nous nous sommes servis des faisceaux de lumière comme de pinceaux effleurant les objets à mettre en valeur ».

Lightemotion, le monde en lumière

Lightemotion a fait ses premières armes dans le domaine des arts du spectacle et des présentations multimédias avant de se faire connaître dans d’autres champs d’expertise tel que l’éclairage architectural et muséal.

La signature Lightemotion, reconnue pour son originalité, a fait le tour du monde au gré de ses engagements en Europe, aux États-Unis et au Canada, en Asie et au Moyen-Orient. La firme a conçu et réalisé de nombreux projets de mise en lumière de musées, notamment le Musée historique de la ville de Strasbourg, le City Museum de Washington, le National Museum of Singapore et vient tout juste de terminer l’éclairage de l’exposition Secrets présentée au Auckland War Memorial Museum le 12 juillet dernier.

Originaire de Montréal, le fondateur de Lightemotion, François Roupinian, s’est entouré d’une équipe pluridisciplinaire et multiculturelle capable de gérer des projets en plus de cinq langues. The exhibit spreads through three rooms, each of them lit with a distinct lighting style fashioned by François Roupinian and his Lightemotion team. The theme of the airport was chosen to recall the many passengers who have arrived- by boat, train, or airplane, over the course of the last four centuries. “This exhibit is the result of a magnificent collaboration between the various participants.” says Roupinian, who declares himself particularly pleased with the Hall of Five Million Souls. In effect, when faced with the very basic expression of lighting in the hall- black light and suspended LED bulbs- the visitor cannot help but sense the presence of these passengers of old, and feel that they are amongst us still.

In the other two exhibition halls, Roupinian limits the means at his disposal, playing with restraint and subtlety: fluorescent tubes at ground level and halogen spotlights with varying beams on the ceiling. The lighting is “in osmosis with the multimedia projections” that hold the attention of the spectators. In other places, underlines Roupinian, “beams of light were used much as brushes, painting the objects to be highlighted.”

Lightemotion, the World in Light

Lightemotion initially worked in the realm of show business and multimedia presentations, before making itself known for its expertise in other domains, such as architectural and museum lighting.

The Lightemotion name, renowned for its originality, has now circled the globe thanks to contracts in Europe, the United States, Canada, Asia and the Middle East. The company is responsible for the conception and production of many lighting design projects for museums, notably the Historical Museum of Strasbourg, the City Museum in Washington, and the National Museum of Singapore.
